  General Notes:

Lydia and 6 of her siblings, all older than her, were baptised on the 11th December 1814 at St Bride, Fleet Street. The ceremonies were performed by a "Mr Jones" and is interesting to note that the first witness at her marriage was also a "Mr Jones" (the other was a church official judging by his appearance as a witness at other marriages that day) .

In 1851 Lydia's birthplace was given as "Surry, Blackfriars" and in 1861 it was "Surrey Christchurch". These suggest that she was born just south of the river over Blackfriar's Brdge which was opened in 1769. St Brides is just north of the bridge.

Note that there is a James Cooper, 35, living with the family in 1841 and an Ann Cooper present at Lydia's death.

In 1870-72, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Southwark like this:
"CHRISTCHURCH-SOUTHWARK, a parish and a sub-district in St. Saviour-Southwark district, Surrey; on the Thames, in the neighbourhood of Blackfriars Bridge, Southwark. Acres, 95; of which 21 are water. Real property, £70, 827. Pop. in 1841, 14, 616; in 1861. 17, 069. Houses, 1, 891. The parish was constituted in 1670; and it previously formed the part of St. Saviour-Southwark parish known as the manor of Paris Garden. Here was one of the ancient play-houses of the metropolis; and here were exhibited the barbarous bear-baitings anciently in vogue. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Winchester. Value, £600.* Patrons, the Trustees of Marshall's Charities. The church, the stipend, and extensive charities, sprang from a bequest in 1627 by Mr. John Marshall. St. Saviour's workhouse is here. -The sub-district is contaminate with the parish."
